Alexandrine Parakeet (Psittacula eupatria)
Location:
The Alexandrine Parakeets live in lowlands and wooded areas of forests, jungles and coastal mangroves of such countries as Ceylon, west Pakistan, east Afghanistan as well as through India and Indochina.
Description:
Alexandrine Parakeets have large heads and beaks and a slender body with a long tapered tail. Males have a green plumage with a black stripe across the lower cheek and a rose-pink colored collar going around the head. Females are lighter that the male and are missing the rose-pink collar or black stripe.
Size - Weight:
Mature birds are about 58 cm (22.6 in). Weight: 250-260g (8.75-9.1 oz)
Social Behaviours:
Alexandrine Parakeets are independent but social. They are adventurous and enjoy new toys and activities. Alexandrines do not enjoy as much handling as other parrots, but do like being touched and stroked on occasion. These birds enjoy regular indoor showers or spraying.
Activities:
Parakeets are very energetic birds. They love to fly and chew. Provide them with lots of assorted toys and wood chews, perches and swings.

Average lifespan is 40 years, dependant on nutrition and care
